                      ADVENTURES IN NMR
                        THE SOLUTION

Since this game has been widely distributed at the ENC, and
is still being given out at other trade shows and demos, it has
been suggested that I circulate a full solution so that those who
do not have the time to figure out the solution can still enjoy
taking a tour through the game. However, for those of you who
enjoy a puzzle, I still recommend that you not read this bulletin.

The following, then, is a brief explanation of all the
puzzles encountered and how to overcome them.

1. The locked door to the basement. This cannot be opened
until the second half of the game.
2. The dean's office. To enter this room, you must first
open the journal in the office, take the slip out of the
journal and read the slip. Then show the slip to the
secretary. Wake the dean when you enter his office.
3. After you visit the dean's office, read the rolodex and
then call an NMR salesman on the telephone. The first
salesman will show up in three moves.
4. First salesman (Varian): give him a cup of coffee.
5. Second salesman (GE): give him the toaster oven.
6. Third salesman (JEOL): show him the journal article.
You will have to do this twice.
7. Fourth salesman (Bruker): show him the article, then
     shake his hand.

At this point, a number of changes will take place. You
will be back in your office several months later.

8. Get the silver key out of your coat pocket and the brass
key out of your desk drawer.
9. Get the NMR sample out of the refrigerator in the coffee
     room.
10. Open the door to the basement with the silver key.
First unlock it with the silver key, then open it.
11. Go immediately to your office and read the rolodex, then
     call a helium company.
12. Go to the basement and continue east to the loading
dock. Take the helium dewar and bring it into the NMR
room. Open the cupboard to reveal the helium transfer
     line and fill the magnet.
13. Turn the spectrometer on, read the manual, put the
sample in the magnet, shim the spectrometer, and measure
     a spectrum.
14. Take the spectrum and bring it to the Dean's office.
     Show it to the dean.

	Good luck!
